Let's talk Green screen!

Green screen is another name you may well call Chromakey. the most important factor in green screen technology is lighting your green screen. Without the correct lighting on the screen, you will fail miserably! The art to performing a good key is to have an "evenly lit green screen background" but also an evenly lit foreground (on your subject). When filming a chromakey or green screen is to have the right colour and to reduce the amount of shadows and creases in the material as possible. If you are photographing People ensure that they are not dressed in similar green colour's or it will be difficult to remove the colour in Photoshop or similar software. Ideally keep your subject around 6 feet away from the background.

The ideal lighting choice for Green screen is Solarlite or Halogen 1000/1300 units or Stellar flash.

Chromakey Blue

Is used widely in the photographic industry and is an excellent choice for new users to this technology due to its neutral colour, is pleasing on skin tones than when compared to Chroma-Green and is easier to light than green. Used more widely in the Video market.The ideal lighting choice for Blue screen is Solarlite or Halogen 1000/1300 units or Stellar flash.

Removal in Photoshop

To pick out the colour's in Photoshop use the main menu >Select >Color range>

Press Crt+Shift+I to inverse the selection followed by Crt+J For a new layer, Here is the result cutout on to a white background.

Black & White Giant Collapsible's

Adding a Masters background to your Interfit light kit will bring out the best in your studio photography providing vibrant colour's or delicate colour's when required. Rome,Venice,Turin & Genoa are an ideal choice when using Interfit colour gel sets, to change the background colour. Make sure the background lighting is around 1 f~stop lower than the main light and no additional light from the main light is spilling on to the background, you can colour the backgrounds or spot light as required to your liking.

Remember you can always wrap you model in a background to keep them warm in the studio or even photograph them in it.
