The model is best placed about 1 to1.5 mtrs (3 to 4 feet) from the beauty dish or camera position this is considered to be the optimal range for the Strobies Beauty Dish (STR102).

USING THE STROBIES GLOBE

Here we are using a combination of the Globe and a honeycomb aimed at the left hand side of the head to create a 3D image, the light falling on the background is from the Globe which is "ON CAMERA" but bouncing of walls and ceiling in the studio.

Strobies lighting Tip

It is important to note that the Flashgun and globe are pointing away from the model as per the image shown on the right.

Here around 20% of the light is directly illuminating the model.

80% is bouncing of the wall 10 feet behind the photographer and also the ceiling creating a wrap around light.

Both the wall and the ceiling are acting like a large softbox.

Caution do not use walls with heavy colour's such as red etc, try to use plain white or cream walls as in this case otherwise you will get a colorcast to your images.

a

The Honeycomb is lighting the side of the models hair from the background position, it is best to use a lens hood on you lens to stop flair otherwise adjust the positioning of the flashgun to the left or further back to stop this happening.

It should be noted the the globe is facing backwards over the top of the photographer with +0.7 EV adjustment dialed in on the flashgun
